Two Station Four Spindle Turning SPM

Case Study

The customer has a solid cylindrical job which has to be drilled and bored in the center. The job would be drilling and cut to size on a traub machine and then get loaded onto a CNC turning centre. The customer was looking for a machine which could effectively reduce the cost, foot print of CNC turning centre and increase the production four fold.

Our Solution:

We offered the customer a machine which has two station. Each station has two spindles mounted. The spindles has a hydraulic 3 jaw chuck mounted on it and was run by a 3.7kW motor. The machine one compound slide having X and Z axis and was mounted with linear tooling for each spindle. The linear tooling consisted of one high speed carbide drill with through coolant and one boring tool. LH station of the machine would drill the component and bore one side, while the RH station would bore the other side. Each station is controlled by an individual Siemens Sinumerik 808D turning controller.

Conclusion:

The client accepted our proposal and we designed and manufactured this custom made two station four spindle turning SPM

Final Finding:

    • Can load four jobs at once.
    • Cycle time to for two job output is 75 seconds.
    • Productivity increased.
    • Due to use of CNC sequence change and programming dependency on OEM is avoided. The end user has the independence to make changes himself/herself.
    • Unskilled labour is sufficient to load and unload the job.
