Drilling, Chamfering and Deburring SPM

This SPM was built for a auto parts manufacturer to Drilling, countersink and De-burr a cylindrical component. The part is a cylinder of Ø35 mm with a wall tickness of 5 mm. The machine is used to drill a Ø6mm drill, with a Ø12 x 45° countersink. The hole has to also be de-burred from the bottom. This is a fully automatic machine, which loads the job, clamps, drills, countersinks, checks for drilling, deburring and unloads the job into a bin.

Features & Specs:

  • Rigid, heavily ribbed, fabricated and stress relieved structural.
  • Atop the base, a servo driven cross slide will be mounted, which will traverse between two stations, drilling station and back deburring station.
  • On this cross slide, a fixture will be mounted, which will have a V block and swing clamp cylinder for clamping the component. The component will be clamped with it axis horizontal.
  • At the drilling station, a drilling head will be mounted with ISO-30 spindle taper driven by a 1 HP motor through a poly V belt and pulley arrangement. The spindle will run at 1400 RPM. The drilling head will be mounted on a servo driven vertical slide, which will have a mechanical dead stop which can be used to limit the hole depth. The drilling head will be mounted with a HSS combination drill with Ø6mm drill and 120°.
  • On the other side of the fixture slide facing the drilling station, a simple loading unit is mounted, which has a gravity chute, on which the components roll and come to the loading point. At the loading point, a pneumatic pusher cylinder is mounted, which pushes the component on the V block of the fixture.
  • At the back deburring station, a drilling head will be mounted with ISO-30 spindle taper driven by a 1 HP motor through a poly V belt and pulley arrangement. The spindle will be run at 700 RPM. The drilling head will be mounted on a servo driven vertical slide, which will be connected to the motor through ballscrew and nut. On the vertical column of the chamfering slide, a pneumatic pushing cylinder is mounted, which pushes the component out of the fixture onto the unloading chute, which leads upto a bin.  The unit head will be mounted with our make of Automatic Deburring and Chamfering tool. (Details of this tool: http://www.shenoyengineering.com/automatic-duplex-deburring-chamfering-tool)
  • Between the drilling and deburring station, a poka yoke station is mounted, which has a pneumatic cylinder with a floating pin. This will have proximity sensor to detect, if the hole has been made or not.
  • The spindle heads used will be of our own make.
  • The drilling head will be provided with ISO-30 x ER-25 collet holder for clamping the tool.
  • All sliding surfaced with be lubricated through centralized lubrication system.
  • All sliding surfaces made of LM guides and blocks. The drive is through servo motor through a reducer. Vertical slides will be provided with brake servo motor. The servo motors are incremental encoder type.
  • Recirculating coolant system provided with magnetic filtration system will be provided.
  • Machine will be provided with a splash guard.
  • The machine’s auto-cycle will be programmed through a PLC. HMI will be provided for parameter setting and trouble shooting.

Sequence of operation:

  • Load the component into the feeder and press auto-cycle.
  • The components get fed to the gravity chute and roll down to the loading point.
  • At the loading point, the pneumatic cylinder pushes the component on the V-block of the fixture.
  • The hydraulic swing clamp cylinder clamps the job.
  • The drilling head with Ø6mm combination drill plunges in feed to drill and chamfer the component and return in rapid.
  • The fixture slide traverses to poka-yoke station where the pneumatic cylinder plunges a pin into the drilled hole to check for drilling.
  • The fixture slide now traverses to the back deburring station.
  • At the back deburring station, the unit head plunges into the hole, deburrs from the bottom and returns in rapid.
  • The hydraulic swing clamp cylinder on the fixture disengages the component.
  • The pneumatic cylinder below the chamfering head pushes the component on the unloading chute.
  • The fixture slide returns to drilling station and cycle continues.
